Keynote Speakers

The EARLI SIG 15 Conference 2026 has two esteemed and merited keynote speakers, whose keynote titles and bios can be found on this page.
Keynote 1 - Professor Sarah Powell

Title: Supporting Students with Mathematics Difficulties: Methodological Considerations for Research

Sarah Powell, Ph.D., is a Professor in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on mathematics for students who experience difficulty with mathematics. With several research projects, Powell designs and implements mathematics interventions with students in local schools. For example, Powell and her team tested the efficacy of a Grade 4 word-problem intervention focused on single- and multi-step word problems. Using a randomized-controlled trial design, the team determined which (of two) intervention approaches was more efficacious for word-problem outcomes. Powell also works with projects on implementation of a fraction intervention across Grades 4-8.
