D-Ark Lab workshop:
(2 similar workshops; max. 15 participants per workshop)
How can we make an inspiring and meaningful exhibition about Finnish architecture and design in the 21st century? Who decides what is important to show and whose viewpoints should we include? What is the best way to present buildings and designed objects in a museum exhibition? How can we mediate the feel and experience? D-Ark Lab is an experimental exhibition testing ways to show and share the collections of Architecture and Design Museum. In the workshop, we will immerse into questions of curation and interpretation in the D-Ark Lab working hands-on with museum objects. Design + Architecture + exploring together = D-Ark Lab!

What significance can an individual object hold in a museum's collection? How is that significance uncovered? On what grounds can an item be removed from the collections? Museums must constantly consider what to preserve in their collections and what not to. The Helsinki University Museum Flame receives materials as donations, finds them within the depths of university campuses, and even discovers them on the museum's own shelves of unidentified objects. Welcome to the workshop where we examine some genuine objects offered to the collections and contemplate what they might reveal about the cultural heritage of the University of Helsinki!
