Adaptive preparedness test to support discretionary application process

Centre for Educational Assessment began in 2013 to develop and test a computer based adaptive adaptive (adaptive to the student's skill level) test of learning preparedness to support the discretionary application process in vocational education.

The aim of the test is to offer the applicant a possibility to show her/his preparedness to learn in situations in which the diploma of the comprehensive school is missing or is not comparable.

The adaptive test is in use in vocational institutes since 2016 and it has been met with general approvement. The results have been utilized also in working out personal study plans for students.

Benefits for educational institutes

The test is meant to support the discretionary application process in vocational education. The aim of the test is to offer the applicant a possibility to show her/his preparedness to learn in situations in which the diploma of the comprehensive school doesn’t tell the whole truth.

The result of the test does not automatically lead to conclusions but the organizer of the education makes the decisions after careful deliberation based on all information available.

The test takes about 60 minutes. Most of the applicants get the separate test blocks done in 15 minutes which means that the whole test can be done in 30-60 minutes.
