The Doctoral Programme in Science works with a wide number of partner faculties at the University of Helsinki, other universities, national and international research organizations, and businesses. The multidisciplinary nature of the programme enables doctoral researchers to gain new and broader perspectives on their research and to interact with researchers from diverse disciplines in an internationally respected scientific community.
Both fundamental and applied research is included in the programme, addressing global challenges related to e.g. climate change, energy, health, technology, and sustainable resource use, using both theoretical and experimental methods.
The programme prepares doctoral researchers for a wide range of roles in society, including positions in academia, research institutes, industry, government agencies, and international organizations. The studies consist of courses and seminars that support the dissertation research. The dissertation research is mainly done in research groups, where individual guidance is offered to doctoral researchers.
