Key research areas

The Doctoral Programme in Atmospheric Sciences is an interdisciplinary programme of the study of the atmosphere and its interactions with ecosystems, human activities, waterways and soils. The research in the program includes theory, laboratory and field measurements, development of measuring instruments, use of remote sensing methods, data analysis and modeling from process models to global models. The multidisciplinary nature of the program enables students to gain new and broader perspectives on their research and to interact with researchers from diverse disciplines in an internationally respected scientific community.

Courses and stydying

A doctoral degree in the programme comprises of a doctoral thesis and 40 credits of additional studies. The studies are divided into discipline-specific studies, aimed to support your research project, and transferable skills training.

Part of the studies are completed flexibly through means other than traditional coursework: conference presentations, essays, scientific and popular articles, editing work etc. Want to know more? Visit our study planning instructions for current doctoral students.

The programme organizes a joint student seminar and intensive discpline-specific courses with the Master's Programme in Atmospheric Sciences. You can also complete courses, which support your research work, in other programmes or even outside our university

Courses in research ethics and transferable skills are offered throughout the academic year by the Doctoral School in Natural Sciences.

Events and activities

ATM-DP organizes events for all of its students typically twice a year. These events include for example a seminar day outside campus and a sightseeing trip to nearby locations.
