Join us for the opening ceremony of the academic year on Monday, 6 September at 12.00!

The rector of the University of Helsinki has the pleasure of inviting the students, staff and friends of the University of Helsinki to the opening ceremony of the academic year 2021–2022 to be held on Monday, 6 September 2021.
Programme 6.9.2021

Much like last year, the beginning of the academic year will be celebrated over a remote connection. A live stream from the opening ceremony will be available on the University of Helsinki’s YouTube channel at 12.00.

The programme of the ceremony includes an opening address by Rector Jari Niemelä as well as speeches by the staff and the Student Union, presented by Jukka Hoffrén, chair of the Docents’ Association of the University of Helsinki, and Jessika Isomeri, chair of the board of the Student Union of the University of Helsinki. Music will be performed by the quartet of the Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra.

After the opening ceremony, an ecumenical service can be viewed on the YouTube channel of the Helsinki Cathedral Parish at 13.30, with Bishop Teemu Laajasalo giving the sermon. Professor Johanna Björkroth will give an address at a non-denominational event, of which a recording will be available on the University of Helsinki’s YouTube channel at 13.30.
