University's anniversary celebration

In March, the University celebrates its anniversary. The anniversary is celebrated in commemoration of the signing of the University Statutes at Nyköping on 26 March 1640.
Anniversary traditions

The celebration is generally held in the university's Great Hall on the correct day or on the Friday before or on the following Monday. The event starts late afternoon and is kicked off by the opening address by the Rector. The keynote address is the main point of the anniversary celebration programme. Music also plays a part in the celebration.

As the celebration continues, the Rector will announce the J.V. Snellman Award for outstanding efforts to disseminate scholarly knowledge followed by the recipient's speech.

The anniversary ceremony and the evening reception are invitation-only events. Representatives of the university's various stakeholders are widely invited to the celebration. The dress code is a dark suit.
