BinkiApp wins Y Science pitching competition for food system ideas

This year’s Y Science, the official side event of Slush on life science innovations, once again attracted an enthusiastic crowd of early-stage companies and aspiring projects in health, food systems and environment to Helsinki, Finland.

Y Science brings together the curious scientific community and the business world to inspire concrete actions and contributions to society in the field of life sciences. One key element of the event are its pitching competitions, where new business ideas are evaluated by a prestigious panel of judges.

Four Viikki Food Design Factory germinator teams competed in the food system pitching competition, and the winner of the 5000€ award was BinkiApp, pitched by CTO and Co-Founder Gaëlle Thomas.

BinkiApp aims to model the behavior of the soil at multiple scales under different climatic conditions, to generate accurate insights on how the climate affects crop yields.

– It’s like a dna-test, but for your soil, say Gaëlle Thomas and CEO Camila Gallo.

The other pitching teams were Arctic Farming, MOLT and Five Letter Foods.

Jurors of the competition this year were Keith Bonnici - Investment director, Tesi, Lauri Reuter - Founder and partner, Nordic FoodTech VC, Louise Heiberg - Senior Investment Manager, PINC (Paulig Incubator).
