Basic education pupils are admitted based on their school admission area from southern Helsinki, except for the Latin class for which pupils are admitted based on a separate aptitude test. School admission areas are displayed in Helsinki's map services: Palvelukartta (in Finnish).

School info for 6th graders and their guardians was held online on Wednesday November 1st 2023 at 18.00 via Zoom.

The school admission area for grades 7–9 comprises the school admission areas of the Snellman and Tehtaankatu primary schools. If a pupil lives and is registered at an address in the aforementioned area all through secondary school, their local school is the Helsinki Normal Lyceum.

Pupils for the Latin class are admitted based on an aptitude test. The test is an examination in the pupil’s native language. Pupils in city of Helsinki's schools enroll via Wilma. Pupils from outside Helsinki also register electronically through Wilma using the following link [registration has ended]. This form is intended for applicants from out of town or applicants whose own school does not use the City of Helsinki's Wilma form Transition to 7th grade. You don't need Wilma credentials to fill out the form, but a valid email address is required. First, enter your email address in the address field and click "Send confirmation message". Then go to your e-mail and click on the link in the message that came there, and you will be able to fill out the registration form. After saving the form, you will receive a confirmation message in your e-mail about receiving the form (however, the message does not specify the search options).

The test takes  place in the assembly hall of the Helsinki Normal Lyceum (Ratakatu 6 B, 00120 Helsinki, auditorium A107) on Thursday, January 18th 2024 from 12.00 to 15.00. No separate invitation for the test was sent. Only the score from the aptitude test will play a role in the admission to the Latin class.

All admission decisions will be mailed to pupils' homes by the end of March.

Admission for other basic education grades

We will accept pupils only from our school admission area for grades 8 and 9. School admission areas are displayed in Helsinki's map services: Palvelukartta (in Finnish).
