Luigi leads the Machine and Human Intelligence research group. His research focuses on building efficient machine learning algorithms for probabilistic and simulation-based inference, optimal experimental design and decision making. He also uses these techniques both as tools and as models to study cognition. He is a member of the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) and European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS).
Antti Honkela is a Professor of Data Science at the Department of Computer Science, where he leads the Trustworthy Machine Learning Research Group. He coordinates the Research Programme on Privacy-Preserving and Secure Artificial Intelligence at the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) and leads the Privacy and Infrastructures work package in the European Lighthouse in Secure and Safe AI (ELSA). He also serves in multiple advisory positions for the Finnish government in privacy of health data.
Arto leads the Multi-Source Probabilistic Inference Research Group. His research centers around algorithms for statistical machine learning and inference, elicitation and representation of human knowledge, and AI-assisted scientific discovery. He also works on applications of these techniques across broad range of scientific domains, from ultrasound physics to food sciences. He is member of the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI and European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS).
Mikko leads the Sums of Products Research Group. His work focuses on non-standard methods, particularly those involving moderately exponential algorithms, for evaluating large and structured sums of products. These approaches hold great potential to significantly advance algorithm theory and computational statistics.
Kai Puolamäki is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR). Kai leads the Exploratory Data Analysis Group, focusing on the theory of machine learning, statistical methods in machine learning, and their applications, particularly in the natural sciences.
Teemu Roos is a Professor of Computer Science and Co-Leader of the Complex Systems Computation (CoSCo) Research Group. He oversees artificial intelligence education at the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence (FCAI) and is the lead instructor of the widely popular online course Elements of AI. A cornerstone of Finland's AI strategy, this course has reached over 720,000 students worldwide, promoting the idea that AI belongs to everyone.
