The Exploratory Data Analysis group, led by Professor Kai Puolamäki, is located at the at the University of Helsinki. We are also associated with the (INAR). We do fundamental machine learning research on probabilistic models, the statistics of machine learning, and explainable and interpretable AI (XAI). One of our main application motivations is the natural world — measured and simulated phenomena — where our objective is to find ways for scientists and others to understand data and the underlying processes, and to build better models of nature.
The research group is part of the and the (FCAI), where Prof. Puolamäki leads the Highlight Programme on Atmospheric AI. We are the AI group in the (VILMA) Centre of Excellence, funded by the Research Council of Finland (2022-2029).
