Two members of the RIP research team, Anita and Otto Fabritius, took part in the Finnish Nuclear Science and Technology Symposium 2025 (SYP2025), held at the scenic Hanaholmen Cultural Centre in Espoo on October 21-22. This marked the fourth edition of the symposium, which was first organized in 2016.
SYP2025 brought together leading experts from academia, industry, and regulatory authorities. The event was organized by ATS (Finnish Nuclear Society), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Finnuclear. This year’s overarching theme was Nuclear Energy Ecosystems, with presentations and discussions covering a wide range of topics, including:
· Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Generation IV technologies
· Nuclear fusion technology
· Nuclear fuel and reactor materials
· Societal perspectives and safety culture
· Nuclear waste management
Among these topics, especially SMRs and nuclear waste management were of particular interest to Anita and Otto, as they align with their current research topics. The symposium featured multiple keynote speeches, technical sessions, and networking opportunities. On Tuesday evening, participants gathered for a conference dinner at Restaurant Plats, located within the Hanaholmen venue.
For further insights into the symposium, check the upcoming issue of the ATS magazine, where Otto will contribute a written piece about the event.
