Migration 2023

Migration 2023 was held 24th – 29th of September at Cité de Congrès in Nantes, France.

After a long break caused by Covid 19, the international conference on the chemistry and migration behavior of actinides and fission products in the geosphere “Migration” was held once again. This year the conference was arranged in Nantes, France.

The program of the conference week consisted of sessions with topics such as computational chemistry, solid-water interface reactions, experimental methods, and diffusion/migration processes. Besides these, a poster session was held 26th and 27th of September where the RIP – team showed up with force as every poster abstract of the team was accepted to be presented in the conference poster session.

Posters presented were as follows: Mineral specific sorption of radium on crystalline rock by Otto Fabritius, Interactions between radionuclides and calcite surface by Xiaodong Li, Out-leaching experiments of rock cores after irradiation by neutrons; study of pore water salinity in crystalline rock by Markus Nyman, Diffusion and sorption of HTO and Eu-152 in crystalline rock with and without bentonite colloids by Noora Pakkanen and In Situ investigations: Radionuclide mobility at concrete-rock interface by Juuso Sammaljärvi.

The conference week was not all work, as participants were given the opportunity to take part in excursions, such as a trip to the Atlantic Ocean, on the 27th of September. The traditional conference dinner party was held 28th of September, where the location of the next Migration conference was revealed.

Thank you, Nantes, for having us!
