About

Molecular Neurology Research Program is one of the five research programs in the University of Helsinki, Faculty of Medicine Research Programs Unit.

We operate in the Research Programs Unit for the period 2013-2018. The program is led by Professor Anu Wartiovaara.

The research program's ambitious goal is to clarify the neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases mechanisms. We are looking for disease susceptibility genes by using cultured cells, disease models and patient samples. The molecular understanding about the diseases is a prerequisite for the search of potential drugs and therapies. We work closely with children's and adult neurology clinics, which enables the efficient use of research findings in the diagnosis, patient treatment and patient counseling. The Molecular Neurology Research Program consists of nine research groups.
