The research of the Microbiology and Biosphere Research (Mibira) group is focused on biosorption and -accumulation studies of environmental contaminants in bacteria and fungi and in bacteria-plant interactions especially in the boreal environment. Our interdisciplinary approach utilizes molecular biology and environmental chemistry with spectroscopic methods and various imaging techniques for diverse applications including bacterial uptake, speciation and protein studies as well as studies on bacterial effects on plant uptake. Our research includes also biosorption and bioaccumulation studies related to the heavy metal bioremediation applications.
