Global climate change and biodiversity crisis are interlinked. The Centre for Coastal Ecosystem and Climate Change Research explores the potential of coastal ecosystems as natural solutions to mitigate climate change by simultaneously quantifying biodiversity and climate feedbacks.
Our group contributes to the highly multidisciplinary work conducted wihtin CoastClim to quantify coastal biodiversity and its feedbacks to the atmosphere. We investigate the role of macrophytes in the carbon cycle; this includes measuring macrophyte carbon stocks, greenhouse gas fluxes and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC)-release. Our activities include field surveys, field and mesocosm experimental work and data analysis.
