In COAST–VOC, we are exploring the VOC emissions of vegetated coastal areas, and how these productive ecosystems and their emissions can impact atmospheric aerosol particles, cloud formation and subsequent climate regulation. Our research is performed on many different scales and levels of detail, from incubations investigating the VOC-emissions of individual underwater plants and algae to atmospheric models investigating global processes.
We bring together previously siloed science communities to link biodiversity descriptors to atmospheric aerosols, and make use of cutting-edge expertise in marine ecology, biogeochemistry, and atmospheric physics, chemistry and meteorology. Our work is mainly split between three universities from different countries: University of Helsinki (Finland), Stockholm University (Sweden) and University of Galway (Ireland).
The Coast-VOC project is operating within the Centre for Coastal Ecosystem and Climate Change Research
