Timo Miettinen, Academy Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at EuroStorie, has been awarded the 2025 Alfred Kordelin Prize.
The Alfred Kordelin Prize, worth €50,000, is awarded for socially influential and topical work in the fields of science, art, and public education.
Miettinen is being recognized for his work in promoting and deepening social debate. He specializes in European philosophy, the history of ideas, and political thought, and is known as a clear communicator and commentator on EU and European issues in both the international media and Finland.
According to the award criteria, Miettinen's work demonstrates that high-level research can be both scientifically meritorious and socially influential. He makes science accessible to a wide audience through his writings, appearances, and media communications.
The award criteria also highlight the strong interdisciplinary nature of Miettinen's approach: current issues in politics and political history are explored in such a way that their connections to the underlying philosophical and ideological perspectives are brought to the fore.
