Title 'The Promises and Perils of Interdisciplinary Encounters'
We are excited to welcome Professor Anne Orford from Melbourne law school, author of International Law and the Politics of History (2021), for an insightful seminar on the complexities of interdisciplinary work. Professor Orford's book addresses the broad methodological questions that arise at the intersection of international law, history, legal theory, and international relations.
During the seminar, Professor Orford will discuss her response to a symposium on her book, titled "The Politics and Protocols of Interdisciplinary Encounters." The session will focus on key arguments from this response, exploring how interdisciplinary methodologies shape scholarly engagement across fields and examining the broader implications of such encounters.
This seminar is part of the Helsinki Legal History Series in collaboration with the CoCoLaw project. In 2024 the Helsinki Legal History Series runs under the theme of "Identities and Legal Histories". We are focusing on the questions of how have collective identities shaped law, and how has law been used to affect, change or protect common identities? Does law recognize marginalized identities or is the history of law a narrative of exclusion?
