Hans-W. Micklitz: Does the Common Heritage (Wieacker) suffice to build a European Private Law?
Abstract
In his seminal paper on European Legal Culture Wieacker argues that personalism, intellectualism and legalism are to be understood as the common heritage of Europe. I will try to show that this heritage does not suffice to build a European private law and explain why is that so.

Professor Hans-W. Micklitz, is a professor of Economic Law in the Law Department at Europe University Institute (emeritus). Prof. Micklitz is one of the best known researchers in European private law and author of books European Economic Law with Stephen Weatherill (Ashgate, 1997), The Politics of Judicial Cooperation in the EU (CUP, 2005), and The Politics of Justice in EU Private Law (CUP, 2018).
