Positive Youth Activism at the Climate Strike in Helsinki

Climate change has gradually become a major concern globally. Especially young people have been actively demanding for actions from decision makers, as their future is directly at stake.

As a culmination of the Global Climate Change Week, on Friday 27th September, youth across the globe skipped a day of school to participate in Climate Strike. The public demonstration in Helsinki was organised by young climate activists and it gathered together about 18 000 young people worried about their future.

The Climate Strike and other similar non-violent protests showcase ideal examples of active, democratic citizenship and encourages young people to take agency in matters that concern them directly. As Great Thunberg has wonderfully demonstrated, even one single voice can be powerful!
