Anu Patjas graduated as an MD in 2016 and has been working in Anu Kantele’s group since 2015. Her clinical research focuses on travellers’ urinary tract infections (UTIs), and antimicrobial resistance in UTIs.
Arttu Nousiainen is a medical doctor and a doctoral researcher studying antimicrobial resistance, specifically the carriage of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-PE). His research focuses on the risk factors and molecular characteristics related to the colonisation, persistent carriage, and transmission of ESBL-PE.
Aurora Djupsjöbacka is a physician and doctoral researcher focusing on post-infectious and prolonged gastrointestinal symptoms among travellers to the tropics.
MD, PhD researcher Marianna Riekkinen is a specialist in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Since 2017 she has conducted clinical vaccine trials and currently concentrates on coadministration of vaccines. Her main focus are mucosal and systemic B-cell responses elicited by oral vaccines. She shares her working hours between research at Meilahti Vaccine Research Center and clinical work as an ID specialist at HUS Inflammation Center.

Sointu Mero is a doctoral researcher with a background in clinical microbiology (MSc 2008, PhLic 2017). She currently working on her dissertation, which focuses mainly on pathogens that cause diarrhoea in children under five years of age. She is also involved in several projects researching antibiotic resistance, including the Multidisciplinary Center of Excellence for Antimicrobial Resistance Research (FIMAR), which addresses the problem of antimicrobial resistance through collaboration between experts from biology, medicine, sociology and bioinformatics.
Tamim Khawaja is an infectious diseases physician and a doctoral researcher. His interests are antibiotic use in LMICs and AMR spread from there.
