Tallest native tree in Finland

With a special permission to enter Vesijako Strict Nature Reserve during a course excursion, we measured with a hand-held the spruce (Picea abies) thought to be the tallest native tree in Finland. According to from 2017, it was 45.1m tall. Now it seems to be in the range from 46.6m to 46.8m, depending on how the base covered in airy mosses is defined. Next year in the same excursion, we should take a theodolite on a tripod to get a more precise height and measure the non-native European larch (Larix decidua) in Punkaharju with the same methods. It could be that the pictured Vesijako spruce is already nearly the same height as the larch considered to be the tallest tree in Finland.
