Laura Kaikkonen participated to a MSP summer school for doctoral students

A summer school on marine spatial planning was organized by the university of Funchal in Madeira.

Doctoral student Laura Kaikkonen participated to the 3rd EcoAqua Summer School on marine spatial planning held at the University of Funchal in Madeira.

During the week, the students attended lectures by specialists working in various maritime sectors, including energy, transport, tourism, and aquaculture. The importance of data-based decision making and international cooperation in planning was highlighted throughout the week.

At the end of the course the students had a go at the MSP challenge, a GIS-based interactive role play game created to illustrate the MSP process with different stakeholder groups and conflicting interests.

Laura enjoyed her inspirational week in Madeira: the studied themes were multidisciplinary and the participants had varying backgrounds, as it is in MSP.

The course participation was funded by the SmartSea project.
