Annukka, Laura & Sakari attend IMBeR FutureOceans2 conference 17-21 June

FEM researchers post-doc , group PI and PhD researcher attended the FutureOceans2 conference in Brest, France 17-21 June.

Held every 4-5 years, FutureOceans2 was the second Open Science conference by the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research project (), with the conference themed ocean sustainability for the benefit of society: understanding, challenges, and solutions. With over 500 attendees from 48 countries, the conference kicked off with a weekend filled with workshops and experts meeting, continuing to a full week of keynote lectures, poster sessions, and oral presentations.

During the conference, Annukka gave two talks on both her own work within the Goherr project on dioxin risks in Baltic Sea herring and salmon, as well as on the work by PhD student Lauri Ronkainen. In a session focused on modelling socio-ecological systems, Sakari Kuikka gave a talk sharing his experience using Bayesian networks in environmental modelling. On the final day of the conference, Laura Kaikkonen presented her PhD work on the ecological risks of seabed mining in the , winning the best student presentation at the conference.
