The European Meteorological Society (EMS) annual conference took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia in September 2025. Two member of the dynamic meteorology group, Joona Cornér and Sara Tahvonen, received Young Scientist Travel Awards to attend the conference. These awards support participation of outstanding students and young scientists at EMS conference and EMS-co-sponsored conferences, with the award money covering the registration fees and part of the travel expenses to the event.
During the 2025 conference, Sara presented the work from her Master’s thesis “Impact of changing sea surface temperatures and sea ice cover on Rossby wave breaking in the Northern Hemisphere” and Joona presented his PhD research “Genesis Conditions and Extratropical Cyclone Intensity in the North Atlantic and Europe: A Statistical and Machine Learning Analysis”. Congratulations to Sara and Joona!
