Migraine Scent Detection

Migraine alert dogs can detect an impending migraine long before symptoms appear, but the chemical cues they respond to remain unknown. Our project investigates which compounds in human breath change during the early stages of a migraine attack.

By analyzing outbreath samples from migraine patients and comparing them with the dogs’ alert behavior, we aim to uncover the olfactory signals underlying the dogs' remarkable ability. The work is carried out in collaboration with VTT.
