Spatial Planning of Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (2017-2020)

FOCUS

We bring spatial biodiversity planning tools into urban planning. Our aim is to develop methods that would allow urban planners and managers better incorporate biodiversity to their spatial plans. Urban biodiversity is a key element in sustainable urban planning, and cities have a great potential for biodiversity conservation.

We combine spatial conservation prioritization as well as and habitat suitability modelling tools in urban areas and land-use planning perspectives. Our research includes spatial prioritizations of (i) urban green areas based on their biodiversity and accessibility, (ii) optimal greening strategies based on urban butterfly communities, and (iii) regional prioritization of biodiversity and ecological connectivity.
