What we do

We work at the crossroads of ecology, geography, mathematics and computation. We develop and apply methods and software for conservation and land use planning. We study how decisions are dependent on data quality and affected by environmental change. Our work integrates species and habitat distributions, ecosystem services, pressures/threats, costs and other factors that influence how conservation and land use should be targeted. Our research ranges from theoretical and methodological development to analyses that support on-the-ground applications anywhere in the world. One approach developed by us is the Zonation software for spatial planning. We have a long history of collaborating with the Finnish environmental administration.
