All you wanted to know about HOM

The highly oxygenated organic molecules (HOM), which have been a core topic of study in the Atmospheric Physical Chemistry group, were recently reviewed in the journal Chemical Reviews.

These HOM were only identified around 7 years ago, and it is certainly untypical that a review in our field is published about such a fresh topic. However, HOM have been such a hot topic, clearly indicated in several important papers to be critical for aerosol formation in many areas, that Chemical Reviews were positive towards such  publication. From the point-of-view of the authors, this was a great opportunity to clarify many misunderstandings that arose due to the fast development of the topic.

While led by INAR, authors from 12 different institutes from Europe, China and USA, contributed with their knowledge to provide an extensive and comprehensive summary of our current understanding of HOM: from definitions and chemical formation mechanisms to measurement techniques and atmospheric impacts.
