Promoting inclusive archaeology

The edited volume "Living Communities and Their Archaeologies in the Middle East" has been published.

The book, published by HUP, is edited by former and current members of the Centre of Excellence in Ancient Near Eastern Empires: Rick Bonnie, Marta Lorenzon, and Suzie Thomas.

The chapters in this book offer valuable insights into contemporary public archaeology. The authors, scholars based in and working on projects in Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Palestine, and Syria, present projects that combine postcolonial approaches, citizen participation, and community work throughout the Middle East. The book explores how archaeology can become more inclusive for diverse audiences, taking into account the practical challenges and opportunities in different social and political contexts.

The book is freely available in open access on the publisher’s website.
