This free and open online course offers a clear introduction to the societal impact of research, along with practical tools to strengthen it.

The course is especially suitable for researchers from all disciplines, but also for anyone interested in the topic. Its goal is to increase understanding of the various forms of impact and provide practical methods for promoting impact at different stages of the research process.

The course covers topics such as:

  • how research can be visible and influential in society in different ways,
  • the importance of interaction with various audiences,
  • the roles of researchers in building impact,
  • assessing impact and the challenges involved,
  • the role of research in political decision-making.

The course consists of five modules that include text, images, videos, audio recordings, and exercises. Text versions are available for all videos and audio materials. Learning is self-paced, and each module ends with a review quiz. A certificate is awarded upon completion.

The total duration is approximately 3–6 hours, and the course content can also be used in teaching under the license.
