Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 – 1962) used her title as the First Lady of the United States and as a member of the wealthy Roosevelt family to advocate for human and civil rights. Roosevelt promoted women’s engagement in political matters; she highly influenced her husband to appoint more women to man-dominated political positions; and she served as a delegate to the United Nations advocating for world peace.
