LekaMed is a development and research project focusing on strengthening every child's right to play and participation by developing the adults roles as responsive co-players within a democratic pedagogical practice. The project strives to develop working methods with a focus on adults co-playing, increasing children's participation and influence and foster pedagogical approaches centred around democracy and democratic values.
Objectives
The project is divided into two thematic areas, and its objectives are therefore twofold.
- Area 1 focuses on developing pedagogical environments and working methods where children are active co-creators in their play and everyday lives, together with adults who take on the role of co-players.
- Area 2 focuses on promoting democratic upbringing in preschools and early childhood settings by enabling genuine participation and agency for children, as well as strengthening educators' competence in creating an everyday environment built on democracy, equality, listening, and respect.
Collaboration and funding
LekaMed collaborates with municipal daycare centres and preschools in the Helsinki metropolitan area across both thematic areas.
The project is funded by the foundation .
