The aim of the project is to study the concrete informal care and self-care practices and (im)mobilities locally and across borders among labour migrants. The researches will analyse how migration transforms these practices and what kind of cross-border and local mobilities emerge for care needs. The focus is on three diverse groups of migrant workers in Finland: 1) Filipino care workers; 2) construction workers from Estonia and Russian speaking non-EU countries and 3) cleaners from Asian and non-EU European countries.
The project addresses the gap in existing research that has overlooked how migrant workers in precarious and temporary jobs care for their families and friends both locally and transnationally.
