Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematics in probabilistic and algebraic approaches to quantum field theory

The Mathematical Physics Research Group in the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at the School of Science of Aalto University is seeking two

Postdoctoral Researchers in Mathematics in probabilistic and algebraic approaches to quantum field theory

to work under the supervision of Prof. Kalle Kytölä and Academy Research Fellow Shinji Koshida.

The chosen candidates will conduct research in one of the following directions:

1. Vertex operator algebras and their representation theory in conformal field theory. This position is associated with Shinji Koshida’s academy research fellowship project Vertex operator algebras arising from lattice systems.

2. Probabilistic techniques in mathematical physics, including their formalization. This position is associated with Kalle Kytölä’s research group, part of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures (FiRST).

The starting date is March 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed. The positions are for a period of two years, with a possible one-year extension.

The application portal will be closed latest on 31.01.2026, but applications will already be reviewed from the 1st of January onwards.

More information about the positions and how to apply can be accessed via the below link.

Interested in joining the research of the CoE?

Each research group of the CoE has their own funding for hiring postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers, and to support research visits to the group. The hiring decisions and arrangements of visits will follow the schedules and guidelines of the host organisation which may thus vary from one group to another. Nevertheless, as a Centre we wish to coordinate and provide support for such hiring and for joint research projects between the groups.

To facilitate connecting excellent candidates with suitable CoE research groups, we provide the opportunity to leave your “calling card” here, by filling out one of the following three forms. The principal investigators of our research groups have access to the submitted information, and they may contact any suitable candidates in order to initiate the discussions which can lead to making an actual application to the host organisation. You are naturally also welcome to submit an application directly in any possible open call for positions for one of our groups but leaving a calling card here allows you to do it well in advance, e.g., before having completed your PhD degree. This way it is also easier to connect you with a group with funding available at the time when you wish to start.

If you are interested in joining the research of the CoE, please choose the appropriate format from the three options below, and submit your “calling card” by filling in the form which opens by clicking on the option.

We will store the “calling cards” for 12 months, and you can always ask us to remove the information you submitted by sending an e-mail to .
