Una Europa Helsinki Researcher Mobility Instrument is ready to launch in January 2026

The University of Helsinki is set to enhance cross-border, interdisciplinary research collaboration within Una Europa through its newly developed Researcher Mobility Instrument. This initiative will enable researchers at the University to travel for 5 to 15 days to one of the Una Europa partner institutions.

Since joining the Una Europa alliance in 2019, the University of Helsinki has actively leveraged the alliance to expand research, education, and mobility opportunities with Una Europa partners.

To further develop collaboration with Una Europa partners, the University of Helsinki developed the Una Europa Helsinki Researcher Mobility Instrument. The instrument is a program designed to support researchers at the University of Helsinki who are looking to establish new connections with colleagues at partner institutions within the alliance.

The mobility instrument complements Una Europa’s ambitions by aiming to:

  • Support University of Helsinki researchers in expanding and developing their networks of international collaborators, sharing and exploring the use of research infrastructures, and engaging in international research cooperation.
  • Strengthen and diversify the University of Helsinki’s research connections, enhance understanding of partners’ research expertise and infrastructure, and foster collaboration with partners from the Una Europa alliance.
  • Promote the University of Helsinki to Una Europa partner institutions.
  • Support the development and expansion of the research component of the Una Europa alliance

This instrument will provide researchers with unique opportunities for career advancement, for developing collaborative projects, and access to specialized research environments across Europe.

The researcher mobility instrument will award funding for researchers at the University of Helsinki to travel for 5-15 days to one of the Una Europa partner institutions. Priority will be given for applicants with a demonstrated research connection to one of the focus areas:

  • Data Science and AI,
  • Cultural Heritage,
  • Europe and the World,
  • One Health,
  • Sustainability, and
  • Future Materials & Technologies.

Call opens on 5 January and ends on 13 February. Applications should include a letter of invitation from the hosting researcher, so now is a great time to start reaching out to potential hosts!

Funding is available for researchers employed by the University of Helsinki, those with the right to study in a University of Helsinki doctoral programme, and those with a grant researcher contract with the University. The funding is intended to cover costs related to transportation, accommodation, and other expenses associated with mobility.
