Hanna Kontio

Hanna Kontio (PhD., Adjunct Professor, education) is a higher education researcher interested in North-South partnerships in higher education and education development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her empirical work in Africa has focused on formal education in Tanzania and Eritrea. Research topics include gender and education, transitions between levels of education, teacher education development, higher education pedagogy and collaborative professional development.  

Currently, she works as a regional expert for Africa in the Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning. GINTL network enhances partnerships between Higher Education Institutions in Finland and with their partnering institutions in the African continent, in China and India. She conducts research on the evolvement of academic Africa-Finland partnerships in the field of educational sciences and supervises Master’s and Doctoral thesis on education development in African contexts.
