Spider portraits – Look into their eyes!

Sami Karjalainen's photography exhibition is on display at the museum café until February 9, 2025.

The large eyes of spiders dominate the walls of the Natural History Museum café until February. Sami Karjalainen’s captivating portraits are bound to intrigue even those with a fear of spiders.

“People fear and dread spiders for no reason. We should speak well of them because they play an important role in ecosystems. I hope viewers will look at these images as they would portraits of humans.”

Sami Karjalainen is known for his high-quality yet accessible non-fiction books. The photographs on display in the museum café are connected to Karjalainen's book "Suomen hyppyhämähäkit", which explores the ecology and behavior of jumping spiders through both images and text.

The photographs will be on display at the museum café from December 10, 2024 to February 9, 2025.
