The Finnish Museum of Natural History Luomus is responsible by law for preserving, acquiring and displaying national natural history collections and carrying out associated research and teaching. The Nature Conservation Act (9/2023) provides for the delivery of wild animals found dead to Luomus for accessioning into its collections. The purpose of the collections is to offer reliable research data for future generations.
