The Finnish Museum of Natural History's 100 Species Challenge encourages participants to observe at least one hundred insect, plant, or fungi species during 2024. Thousands of citizens have already taken on the challenge, which expanded in the fall to include a version for children and youth.
Now, the challenge reaches the walls of the Natural History Museum's café in the form of photographs. The exhibition serves as a reminder that nature observations can be made year-round. Species use various strategies to survive Finland’s harsh winters—some migrate, while others rely on different methods for protection. The exhibition features common species in Finland, with captions explaining how they endure the winter. All the species are also part of the species list for the children's and youth's 100 Species Challenge.
The photographs will be on display at the museum café from October 8 to December 9, 2024.
