Luomus Micro-CT Laboratory
The micro-CT imaging capabilities enable precise non-destructive, quantitative characterization of tissues, organs, small organisms, and fossils, supporting research in biology, taxonomy, developmental biology, and paleontology. The laboratory specializes in imaging biological and museum specimens.
Location
The laboratory is located on the first floor of the Finnish Museum of Natural History, Room B116, at .
Imaging Capabilities and X-ray Configuration
- Sample size: 1–280 m
- Maximum sample weight: < 15 kg
- Maximum voltage: 225 kV
- Minimum voxel size: 3 μm
- A Varex XRD4343CT 16-bit digital flat panel detector enables high-resolution X-ray computed tomography imaging with a wide dynamic range.
- A multi-metal X-ray target (Mo, W, Ag, Cu) allows adjustment of the X-ray energy spectrum according to sample properties.
- An X-ray filter kit is used for beam energy optimization.
