When the collections of the zoology unit of the Finnish Museum of Natural History moved into their current building on Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu in 1923, it marked the birth of the Natural History Museum. At the 100th anniversary of the Natural History Museum, not everything is what it appears to be. In the party tents, you may come across a beetle crawling on a stalk of grass, a highly skilled taxidermist or a steady-handed bird-ringer.
This exhibition explores topics important to the centenarian, such as insect research, species monitoring, zoological collections, preservation and taxidermy, digitisation, and museum exhibitions. You will also have the chance to consider how you can contribute to biodiversity.
The magical atmosphere of the festive exhibition is suitable for all ages. The exhibition is a place to touch, experiment and get excited about nature!
The exhibition is open to the public from 3 June 2023 to 29 December 2024. Welcome to the party!
