From archive photos to paintings – Sanna Härkönen’s art takes viewers into gardens of the past

Sanna Härkönen's exhibition is on display at the Gallery Corridor of the Kaisaniemi Greenhouses from 7 October to 30 November 2025.

Visual artist Sanna Härkönen’s exhibition explores how plants and gardens have been part of people’s everyday lives and shared moments, both in the past and today.

The acrylic paintings in the exhibition are based on photographs of people in gardens and with plants, selected from the Helsinki City Museum’s Helsinkikuvia.fi archive. Interpretations of these archival photos are combined with Härkönen’s paintings created in the Kaisaniemi Botanical Garden in autumn 2025.

Sanna Härkönen is a Helsinki-based visual artist who has worked in painting and drawing for nearly 20 years. Her work is rooted in observing everyday environments and encounters through painting, drawing, and writing, combining archival and photographic materials with memories, imagination, and fictional elements.

Look! Do You Remember This? will be on display in the Gallery Corridor of the Kaisaniemi Greenhouses from 7 October to 30 November 2025.

Research groups, artists, photographers, authors, nature hobbyists and all other nature enthusiasts are invited to propose an exhibition for the exhibition spaces of the Natural History Museum and the Kaisaniemi and Kumpula Botanic Gardens.
