The Institute of Criminology and Legal Policy, or KRIMO for short, is a multidisciplinary research institute at the University of Helsinki, specialising in research and monitoring of crime and legal policy in Finland. KRIMO’s researchers are interested in a multitude of crime and policy-related issues. For example, KRIMO’s research areas include: register-based study of crime and sanctions, youth crime, homicide research, legislative studies on participation, quality, and impact of regulation, access to justice research, debt research, and so on. While most of our resident researchers come from social sciences or legal background, KRIMO welcomes applicants for the visitor programme for all disciplinary backgrounds.
Through the Visiting Research Fellow Programme, KRIMO welcomes up to two visiting research fellows per academic semester. Visiting research fellows are expected to participate in the academic life at the institute, for example, by giving a presentation of the ongoing research and/or by organising a workshop, seminar, by guest lectures, or by other means.
The curriculum vitae must contain at least the following information:
Applications will be considered twice a year. The deadlines are: February 15 for the fall semester (starts in September), and September 1 for the spring semester (starts in January). Applicants will be informed about the decisions via email by April 1 and October 15.
The institute is not able to finance the Visiting Research Fellows. Fellows are expected to be self-funded, including their travel expenses and housing during the stay. However, the institute does not collect any desk fees from fellows accepted to the programme.
