The Viikki arboretum is administrated by the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Helsinki. Its operation is managed by the joint management team of the University of Helsinki and the City of Helsinki. The management team is appointed by the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and the term of office of the management team is four years.
The duties of the Viikki arboretum's management team include:
- scientific and educational development of the arboretum
- green area development of the arboretum
- supervise and develop the arboretum management arrangements of the City of Helsinki and the University of Helsinki on the basis of a mutually agreed cooperation agreement
- annually determine the workforce needed for the care and maintenance of the arboretum and its availability before the beginning of spring work
- take care of other issues concerning the arboretum
