BI Histology Core Facility

The Histology Core Facility in Viikki campus provides comprehensive services, including tissue preparation and high-quality histological analysis, to support both academic and commercial research and biomedical applications. Our services cover a wide range of tissue types, including human, animal, plant, and in vitro/ex vivo-derived samples, and supports advanced methods such as multiplexed gene/protein expression and spatial omics.

1. Tissue Processing & Embedding
   • Automated and manual paraffin embedding (2 automated tissue processors, 1 manual embedding station, 1 paraffin oven).
   • Cryo-sectioning, plastic sectioning, and vibratome sectioning for diverse sample requirements.
2. Sectioning & Staining
   • Microtome sectioning (6 workstations with microtomes, microscopes, and water baths).
   • Cryostat sectioning (2 fully equipped workstations).
   • Vibratome sectioning (1 dedicated workstation).
   • Manual slide staining (2 workstations).
3. High-Throughput Slide Scanning
   • Fast, high-resolution brightfield scanning (20X & 40X air objectives) using a Pannoramic digital scanner for efficient digital analysis.
4. Expert Support
   • Technical assistance and training in histological techniques for optimal experimental outcomes.
