EU infrastructure and ESFRI projects

FIMM is involved in many EU Infrastructure and ESFRI Projects.

EATRIS supports stakeholders in biomedical research by giving access to technologies, and expertise. Finland was one of the founding members and participates with eight sites in this network across 12 EU members states. As part of EATRIS, FIMM is offering services in the areas of biomarkers (e.g. omics technologies), small molecules, and imaging. FIMM research coordinator Dr. Andreas Scherer is EATRIS Finland National Coordinator and acts as co-chair of the EATRIS biomarker platform. He also is initiator and head of the EATRIS Quality Initiative which currently encompasses seven international research projects with the aim to develop and establish best practice guidelines towards increased reproducibility and applicability of translational research, for example for increasing accuracy in somatic variant detection with NGS technology.

EU-OPENSCREEN, European high-capacity screening network

U-OPENSCREEN integrates high-capacity screening platforms throughout Europe, which jointly use a rationally selected compound collection, comprising up to 140.000 commercial and proprietary compounds collected from European chemists. EU-OPENSCREEN offers to researchers from academic institutions, SME's and industrial organisations open access to its shared resources.

EU-OPENSCREEN will collaboratively develop novel molecular tool compounds with external users from various disciplines of the life sciences. FIMM High Throughput Biomedicine (HTB) unit is one of the EU-OPENSCREEN partner sites.
