HiLIFE Deputy and Campus Directors for LSRIs appointed

After opening the call for two part-time positions in December 2022, HiLIFE Director has now appointed Maria Vartiainen and Pirkko Mattila for the roles of HiLIFE Deputy and Campus Director for LSRIs.

The Deputy and Campus Directors operate on different campuses (Meilahti and Viikki) and act as the primary contact persons for respective campus level infrastructure topics and for platform chairs.

Research Director Maria Vartiainen (Institute of Biotechnology, HiLIFE) who has already been acting as the Head of HiLIFE LSRIs after Katja Kivinen’s departure in late 2022, will now continue her work with infrastructures as the HiLIFE Deputy Director for LSRIs. In this role, she has the overall responsibility of HiLIFE RI strategy development and represents HiLIFE infrastructures in the HiLIFE management team. Maria’s official first day on this role has commenced on 15.02.2023, and she will be based at Viikki Campus.

Research Director Pirkko Mattila (Finnish Institute for Molecular Medicine, HiLIFE), with previous expertise on FIMM Technology Center operations and Meilahti campus life science infrastructure networks, has also started on her position on 15.02.2023. Now, as the Meilahti Campus Director for LSRIs, one of her main focuses is to provide support to the local HiLIFE LSRIs staff. She will also collaborate closely with the HiLiFE Deputy Director for LSRIs in the HiLIFE RI strategy development.

We received several excellent applications to these two positions. As maintenance and further development of research infrastructures are a central part of HiLIFE’s activities and important for the whole life science area in our university, I am truly happy that Maria Vartiainen and Pirkko Mattila, are now our directors of HiLIFE LSRIs,” notes HiLIFE Director Jari Koistinaho.
