The Biocenter Finland is seeking for a Director

Biocenter Finland invites applications for the position of Director (part-time) for the period 1.4.2026–30.6.2031. This leadership role provides a unique opportunity to influence the strategic direction and advancement of life science research infrastructures across Finland.

Biocenter Finland is a national life science research infrastructure organization that develops, coordinates, and provides open-access technologies and services to researchers across Finland and internationally. Its seventeen technology platforms cover all key areas of the life sciences, from genomics and single-cell omics to advanced imaging, structural biology, and data-driven science, supporting over 3,000 research groups annually.

Biocenter Finland has been recognized with Lighthouse Status and inclusion in the Research Council of Finland’s National Roadmap for Finnish Research Infrastructures 2025–2028, highlighting its scientific excellence and impact.

Biocenter Finland is jointly hosted by the Universities of Eastern Finland, Helsinki, Oulu, Tampere, Turku, and Åbo Akademi, with coordination at the University of Helsinki.

About the role

The Director of Biocenter Finland will lead the strategic and operational development of Biocenter Finland, working closely with the host universities, Technology Platforms, and national and international partners. The position offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of Finnish life science infrastructures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing BF’s activities and coordinating its Technology Platforms
  • Working with the Governing Board to secure long-term funding for Finnish life science infrastructures
  • Strengthening domestic and international collaboration and visibility, including engagement with EU and ESFRI networks
  • Preparing national roadmap and funding applications
  • Leading the Coordination Office and organizing Scientific Advisory Board meetings

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A doctoral degree or professorship (or equivalent academic credentials)
  • Strong expertise in life sciences and demonstrated leadership experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Finnish research infrastructures and affiliation with one of BF’s host universities (or equivalent familiarity)
  • Proven leadership and management skills 

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in international expert roles
  • Expertise in international science and research infrastructure policy
